Consisting of the Ainslie Football Club, the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club and Canberra City Bowling Club, the Ainslie Group has a proud history dating back more than 80 years when the Ainslie Football Club was formed with its primary objective to foster Australian Rules Football. This club has played a vital role in the Canberra community over the years through its dedication to supporting not only AFL, but a large range of sporting and non-sporting organisations. Overlooking our world class Ainslie Football Oval in Canberra’s inner north is where you will find the recently renovated Ainslie Football Club. This venue continues to impress members and patrons with its restaurant, state-of-the-art function, gaming and lounge areas and outstanding quality of customer service.
Just a stone’s throw away nestled in Elder Street Braddon you will find the Canberra City Bowling Club. This little gem which boasts three greens and a busy bowls program is one of the oldest bowling clubs in the ACT. Brimming with old-fashioned charm, it’s here you can expect the highest level of hospitality and one of the best meals in Canberra at Blake’s Restaurant. Over recent times this club has become the meeting place for a range of sporting associations which the Ainslie Group is proud to support, including the Komodo Paddling Club, among others. In fact, in 2011 our not-for-profit organisation donated $1.7 million in cash and in-kind to local sporting associations and charities, and continued to invest heavily into our club amenities and services.
The Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club is a shining example of this. Established in 1996 and situated on 70 hectares of picturesque green land, this resort-style public access course ranks among the best in Canberra, and features a superb playing surface and beautiful attention to detail throughout. In early 2012 the club celebrated the completion of a $9 million redevelopment. This included the expansion of the dining areas, sports bar and TAB, and the creation of Entice Bar and Restaurant, new function rooms, a restaurant and pizza bar, kids’ playroom and a bigger brighter foyer. Patronage continues to grow in response and today the three clubs have a collective membership base of more than 40,000.
It’s also important to note, the Ainslie Group takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously. Spread across large areas of Canberra land, all due care is taken to ensure we look after native trees, wildlife and waterways, and water and electricity is used as sustainably as possible. It’s all to ensure future generations can enjoy our wonderful facilities for many more years to come.
